| WHO
ARE WE? |
|
We are one of the
oldest and largest of the British Computer Society's many Specialist
Groups and have been in existence since 1965.
We have several hundred
members, many within the top 100 companies. Our members come from
a wide cross section of business including the accountancy and
information technology professions, central and local government,
the banking, manufacturing and service sectors, as well as academia.
You do not have to be
either an auditor, or a member of the BCS to belong. Anyone with
an interest in the control of IT is welcome. The wide interests
of the group are reflected in its objectives which include:
- encouraging research into information
technology audit and promoting the development of auditing
and control techniques to reflect changes in technology, legislation
and society
- providing a forum for the development
of awareness and competence in information technology audit
- promoting the efficient, effective
and economical use of audit and control in the information
technology environment.

| WHY
YOU SHOULD JOIN? |
Membership
of the group provides a number of outstanding
benefits including:
- a free quarterly journal which keeps
members in touch with advances in
information systems control and audit
techniques
- free attendance at regular meetings
which are addressed by I.S. and audit
professionals
- an opportunity to meet and establish
contacts with other people active in the
I.S. audit and control sphere
- reduced registration fees for many
conferences
- participation in a quarterly discussion
group
- discounts on international computer
security magazines
The discounts for attendance at many
conferences and international magazines amount
to many times the annual subscription, while
our own quarterly journal has established
itself as an important forum in the audit and
control area. The really big bonus however, is
the opportunity to meet other people involved
in control and audit; professions which are
growing in importance as it is recognised that
control in computer applications and
developments is often of critical importance
to the survival and future well being of an
organisation.

| OUR
MEETINGS |
| Our
monthly meetings run from October through to
May, usually in central London, but with the
occasional foray elsewhere. The formal
proceedings usually start at 4.30pm and run
through until about 6.30pm. Tea beforehand and
refreshments afterwards provide time for
colleagues to meet and discuss topics of
mutual interest.
The subjects covered are diverse to reflect
the different interests of the membership, but
with a strong emphasis on control, audit and
security matters.
Our discussion group meets quarterly for a
full day, usually with 4 speakers introducing
various aspects of a common theme. Attendance
to these events is limited to ensure an
informal atmosphere which encourages
discussion amongst the participants.

| OUR
JOURNAL |
| Published
quarterly, our journal is our main
communication arm with our members. Each
edition contains articles written by our
members for our members, to help them
maximise their contribution to their own
organisation. If you want to keep up to date
on IS control and audit matters, then our
journal is a must.
We have a strong editorial team to ensure
that quality is kept high and the content
varied enough to provide something for
everyone; no matter what your expertise, or
job title. If you are unable to make one of
our meetings you will often find a paper on
the subject concerned in a subsequent edition
of our journal.
Remember, the journal is supplied free to
members.
