Late Afternoon

PDA's and mobile computing risks Shirt-pocket sized computers costing £100-£500 are many times more powerful than mainframes of just 20 years ago.  Many can store hundreds of Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PDFs and the like.  Laptops can be many times more powerful still, with massive hard drives.  They frequently have weak security (PDAs especially), and many users seem not to implement even those features available as standard.  Yet these devices often contain sensitive information and many are linked to corporate systems (sometimes unofficially).  This session will ensure members are aware of the current risks and appropriate countermeasures.

IRMA members can request an emailed copy of the First Base Technologies Paper on Portable Computing Device Security by sending an email to Didi Barnes didi@firstbase.co.uk

And details of a backup program for the HP/Compaq iPAQ are Sprite Backup from www.spritesoftware.com
